McIlveen: I want success at Larne

McAlinden has been tracking the former Glenavon player for some time and it looks like he has finally got his man.

McIlveen is highly thought of at Dixon Park and the Larne manager has been keeping tabs on him since he took over at Inver two years ago.

The 21-year-old put pen to paper last Thursday evening (December 10), and is expected to be eligible to play from New Year’s Day.

That means he could be in line to make his debut in the home league match against Donegal Celtic on January 2.

“I became aware of Larne’s interest when I spent a year at Glenavon and I was leaving on loan,” McIlveen told the Times. “Things didn’t work out as I stayed at Glenavon until end of August which led to signing for Ballyclare. I became aware of interest this week and when I heard Davy’s plans I was keen. I saw it as a challenge that would improve me as a footballer.

“I believe I will bring hard work to the team. Anytime I step on the pitch I always give 100 per cent and I like to get my foot on the ball and keep things moving.”

And the Kells native believes he’s joining a Larne side that is “going places”.

“I didn’t sign for Larne for the club to remain a Championship team. They are striving for promotion and hopefully I can add something to the team and be part of something successful,” he added.

“I work hard first and foremost. I see myself more defensive player in front of the back four. I like to get on the ball, start attacks and play in the right areas.”

McIlveen certainly made an impact at the Comrades but felt the time was right for him to move on.

“I loved my time at Ballyclare and played with some top players. I would like to thank the fans who I had a great relationship with and wish the club all the best in the future.”

McAlinden told the club’s website: “Sammy is someone we have been tracking since we came to the club. He’s a tenacious midfielder with a great range of passing.

“We’re delighted to finally land him and bring him to the club.”

Meanwhile, Ballyclare Comrades are on the hunt for a new manager after David Dorrian dramatically quit his the role at the weekend.

Dorrian, who had been in the job for nine months, told the Times he resigned over a “difference of opinion with the Board”.

The Championship 1 club announced his departure on Saturday afternoon.

Dorrian leaves Dixon Park with the team in tenth spot in the table, with 16 points from 12 outings.
