Gary Hamilton completed his second signing in four days when Tony McNamee put pen to paper on Monday night for Glenavon.

McNamee, who played for Derry City, joins Ciaran Caldwell who made the switch to Mourneview Park last Friday from Cliftonville while Tiarnan Mulvenna moved to the Reds. McNamee, who celebrated his 21st birthday recently, is the third ex-Derry City player at Glenavon, joining Eddie McCallion and Ciaran Martyn.

“He is an attacking midfielder who can also play wide which gives us another option,” said manager Gary Hamilton.

“When you get players coming along who are good enough to play for Derry City then you have to give them a chance. It’s a no lose situation for both of us, he is getting an opportunity to come here and if he does well he will get first team football and put himself in the shop window.”

Glenavon face high flying Ballymena at Mourneview on Friday night and while on the plus side Ciaran Caldwell will make his debut the manager does have injury concerns.

“Conor Dillon is out for up to four weeks after twisting his ankle at Solitude. Ciaran Martyn and Kevin Braniff are both suffering from knocks so it’s good we have Ciaran Caldwell fit and ready to slot in.

“Ballymena will come as favourites, they are on a great run and they will feel they owe us one after we beat them in the cup final.

“If we play the way we did against Dungannon then they will turn us over for sure, but we if we play to our strengths we can get a result.”

Glenavon are back in league action on Tuesday night, at home to Ballinamallard 7.45pm.
