McNamee waiting on Forest’s call

JUST like Stephen McLaughlin team-mate Barry McNamee is waiting for news from Nottingham Forest.

While McLaughlin’s deal is expected to be completed sooner rather than later, the Ramelton man concedes although he felt he did alright during last week’s trial the Championship out-fit didn’t really give him much of a clue what their decision would be.

“To be honest I felt I did OK, so we’ll just have to wait and see,” stated McNamee.

“I really enjoyed the experience and training with the first team all the time was great.

“We had a day off on the Monday, so I went and watched Forest’s Under 21’s play and then I trained the rest of the week with the first team.”

McNamee really burst onto the scene with the Candy Stripes mid-way through last season and did more than enough to force his way into Declan Devine’s starting eleven which defeated St Patrick’s Athletic in last month’s FAI Ford Cup Final.

The 20-year-old does admit if there is no offer from Sean O’Driscoll’s side then he will be happy enough to remain at Brandywell, but he does admit now that he has been bitten full-time football across the water by the bug, he does want more.

“If Forest don’t make a move for me, then I’ll be only too happy to remain at Derry,” he added.

“Yes training with the Forest first-team was hard at times, but it certainly wasn’t something which I’m not used to at Derry, it was faster but I think if I was training regularly with them then I would get up to speed with them.

“Because I really enjoyed my week at Forest I know if things don’t materialise then I need to get my head down and continue to work hard and give 100 per cent for Derry and if I do that then you never know what might happen.”
