Midfielder hatedCity spell

MIDFIELDER Michael McCrudden admits he’s happy to be just back playing after an unhappy time at Derry City.

The Waterside man, who made his Institute debut on Saturday, concedes that he hated going into training’ while he was at the Brandywell and is now just focusing on getting his career back on track.

“I didn’t think I was treated fairly with Stephen (Kenny) and I don’t want to say much more,” insisted McCrudden.

“I hated going into training and it just got me so down and because of that I think I have a confidence issue, which I have to get over.

“I still want to get back over the water, in fact whenever I came back from Newcastle that was what I was thinking but that just didn’t happen, but at the minute I’m only concentrating on doing well for Institute and then we’ll see where that takes us.”

The ex-Newcastle United starlet feels he is making up for lost time and is now hoping to get games under his belt and more importantly play regularly

“I’m happy to be just back playing and I’m enjoying everything at the minute, the training was quality and all the lads in the dressing room are dead on.

“When Keeso (Paul Kee) was trying to sign me, he was telling me about trying to push for promotion and that Institute were still in the Intermediate Cup, so I knew that I was signing for a club who want to go places.”

Although he was only making his debut against Banbridge Town last weekend, the talented midfielder knows just how important this weekend’s clash against fellow promotion hopefuls Bangor is for ’Stute.

“It’s a massive game for us and that’s why I wanted to come to Institute, to play in big games and I already know that every match for us now is a final.

“At the minute I might not be up to scratch fitness wise but it will come, that was another 90 minutes under my belt, so hopefully this is the start of me playing regularly.

“To be honest I feel I haven’t been playing regularly for the last three years, so I need to get a good run of games and hopefully whenever I do get more game time that I will start playing better on a regular basis.”
