Midweek Park claim full points

BALLYMEN Midweek Park continued their recent good run of form when they whitewashed Falls at the Old Ballymoney Road green last week, with a final scoreline of 78-49.

Five single shots were scored over the first 5 ends on rink 1 where Paul Davison, Tommy Crooks, Don McKee and Harold Smyth were drawn against G Carson with the visitors holding a one shot lead.

The game then changed in favour of the Ballymena men when they scored consecutive counts of 3 shots and from then on the Braid rink bossed the game. The visitors were only able to score 3 more shots with the home rink going on to record a fine 21-6 victory.

Eddie Leckey, Jackie Barr, Leslie Jackson and Billy Scullion found themselves trailing by 2 shots after 6 ends on rink 2 against J McCallum however it was the Ballymena rink who dominated the remainder of the game.

They won 6 of the next 7 ends to take a 7 shot lead and they were able to maintain this advantage right until the end of the game and claim victory by 18 shots to 11.

On rink 3 Joe Kyle, Dessie Shaw, Liam Lyness, and John Greer were having a real battle against the Falls rink skipped by B Griffin.

At the halfway stage of the game the Falls rink held a 3 shot lead, however the Braid men hit a purple patch between the tenth and sixteenth ends when they scored 10 unanswered shots and this was enough to ensure that they would go on to claim a 21-16 victory.

Roy Kernohan, John Houston, George Stewart and Jim Cameron were certainly not having things their own way on rink 4 against J Ferguson and after 10 ends they found themselves trailing by 11 shots. Counts of 3 and 2 over the next 2 ends saw the Braid men close the gap to 6 shots.

Singles were shared over the next 2 ends, however in a remarkable finish the Ballymena rink scored 8 unanswered shots which included a count of 3 on the final end to complete a great comeback and record an unexpected 18-16 victory.

This week Ballymena Midweek Park make the long trip to Downpatrick.
