Midweek start for United Youth Academy teams

THE season commences for the Ballymena United Youth Academy sides this week for the older age groups involved in the National League.

In preparation for this the under 13,14 and 15 sides have been training hard and involved in friendlies against some quality opposition.

The under 14s are in action tonight (Tuesday) against Ballymoney while the under 13s begin their campaign on Wednesday evening at home against North West outfit Ballymoor.

The 13s in the last week having defeated NIBFA champions St Oliver Plunkett and after unluckily losing to a strong Linfield side,will be looking to hit the ground running.

Their compatriots at under 13 who will compete in the Lisburn League have excelled in pre season and racked up another big win over Carnmoney at the weekend, Daniel Bell on target with a superb hat trick and Ethan McKeown again impressing.

The under 12s have been quietly going about their pre season business with some great displays and manager Leo Heggarty has rebuilt his side with some quality new signings. They will be looking to build on last seasons displays.

The Academy is proud to have two teams at yet another age group as a second under 12 side will compete in the Belfast and East Antrim League.

Johnny Hume and Colin Lorimer with their under 11 side have probably turned most heads pre season with some outstanding football and their campaign begins in earnest with an eagerly awaited ‘derby’ against an always strong Carniny side.

The United babes at under 10 level have commenced training and they too will be looking to impress as they head to the excellent Coleraine 7 a side league,competing every Saturday.

With more sides than ever competing at various age levels, the Showgrounds nursery will aim to develop a player’s football skills along with their self esteem,motivation and a desire to learn, all while playing with smile on their face.
