Millar calls for summer switch

LARNE Football Club manager Paul Millar this week called for the Irish League bosses to “grasp the nettle” and introduce summer games.

It is something Millar has campaigned for over many years and he believes a move to the summer months would breathe badly-needed “new life” into the local game.

The Inver Reds were again one of many fixture casualties on Saturday as they sat out another costly weekend because of a frost-bound pitch in the scheduled WKD Core Intermediate Cup match with Dollingstown.

“I used to write a column in a daily paper and several times I advocated the good sense of playing in the best weather as being the way forward. I have never shifted from this strongly-held opinion and I know a lot more folk are beginning to appreciate the wisdom of that,” said the Inver Park manager.
