Missed chances prove costly yet again

Second half goals from Terry Fitzpatrick and Stefan Lavery made it a blue Christmas for the Bannsiders in a game which they really should have take something out of.

“We are obviously very disappointed to slip to another defeat,” Oran Kearney told Times Sport after the game.

“We had produced better performances over the last couple of weeks, but we all knew the first goal was going to be vital again today.

“We created a lot of good chances, particularly in the first half, but we haven’t taken them and we end up conceding a really soft goal from a corner which leaves us on the back foot.

“When you’re on the run we are and confidence is the way it is goals like that make you feel like you’re 2-0 down instead of one. It’s another tough day at the office, but one again were we’ve created enough, particularly in the early part of the game to get something out of it.

“I stand here week in, week out saying the same thing, you’re never going to dominate a game for 90 minutes, and during the stages of the game when you’re dominant that’s when you have to go and win the game.

“We’ve had ample opportunities to go and do that today. Aaron Canning’s chance before half time and Stephen Carson’s chance just after it were two big chances at this level that can put you 1-0 up and change the outlook of the game.”

The Bannsiders boss was left disappointed with the manner of the goals his side conceded.

“It was a good delivery from Hazley but it’s poor from our point of view as no-one takes responsibility,” he said. “People need to step up and do their jobs it has cost us big time.

“The referee made the correct decision for the second goal, Michael has headed the ball back and their player has ran on and scored.

“I have no qualms with the officials about that one, again it’s down to individual errors for us. We haven’t punished Dungannon when they made a mistake, whereas they have punished us.

“That’s the fine lines between winning and losing.”
