Mixed results for Academy sides

SATURDAY’S results for The Lisburn Distillery Academy sides were slightly mixed.

The U-16s had an emphatic 8-0 win over Glenstar, Rhys Grainger, Chris Walmsey, Ryan Campbell and Ben White had Sam Allen’s team 4-0 up at half-time and the second half was a carbon copy with Neil Patton getting a goal before an Aaron Martin penalty and a brace from Danny Hawe completed the scoring. The U-11s improved form continued as they were narrowly edged out 4-3 by Carrick Rangers, Jason Scott (2) and Adam Hamilton the goalscorers. In the U-12 section the Wee Whites just can’t seem to get the measure of league leaders Loughgall. After losing narrowly 1-0 a few weeks ago in the cup, Arty Storey’s boys lost another tight encounter against the County Armagh boys 2-0 the scoreline this time.

The U15s suffered a surprise 1-0 defeat to Lower Maze in the cup which put an end to their treble aspirations but in the quarter-final of the U-13 cup Steven Nutt’s team continued their superb recent form running out comfortable 5-0 winners against Shankill Juniors, Jordan Emery (2), Ub Ottong (2) and Stewart Morrison were the names on the scoresheet. The U-15s were involved in yet another nailbiting game coming back from 4-2 down to defeat Comber 5-4, Sam Mulligean (2) and Tyler Guy (2) were on target before Lee Davidson got the the winner but although he never got his name on the scoresheet a mention must go to Corey Geddis who put in a man-of-the-match performance. Cliftonville narrowly defeated the U-17s 1-0 in the remaining Lisburn League game. In the Belfast GDC the U-9s had two exciting encounters with Carnmoney and Willowbank in which Ross White got a couple excellent goals and Ben Gilliland continued his goalscoring run when smashing home from distance.
