Moneyslane fall to late freak goal in Bob Radcliffe Cup tie

The hosts were without skipper Gareth Bingham, John Whitten and Chris Brown all unavailable and also Ferguson and Jason Fairley injured. Recalled to the squad were Peden after injury, Steen, Anderson and Adair.

Johnstone opted for a 4-3-3 formation with Ervine as a lone striker and Harrison and Anderson playing either wing with a central three in midfield. Moneyslane started the game with plenty of endeavour and while Coagh were good in possession they did not create any chances early on.

As the half wore on the home team grew in confidence and indeed they created a number of good chances. Harrison cut in from the right and fired just wide, Ervine just failed to connect from a Harrison cross and on two occasions the final ball just failed to put a player through 1v1 with the keeper.

It was the home team that took the lead after 55 minutes when the hard working Ervine broke down the right and he slipped the ball into Harrison who smashed home left footed off the far post. Coagh tried to respond but the Slane defence, superbly marshalled by the experienced Peden dealt with everything thrown at them.

Blevins produced an excellent save diving low to his right but the away team then equalised when the No 8 from 25 yards found the bottom corner. Jordan Fairley came on for Gibson on 70 minutes and the young player made an immediate impact when he drove down the left wing only to be bundled over in the box to win a penalty.Ervine stepped up but fired wide.

Coagh pushed hard for the winner as the home team tired, Adair replaced Anderson but they could not make the ball possession and pressure count.

Extra time saw Coagh having better possession with the home team content to invite them on and hit on the break.

Then with only five minutes left and penalties looming, the away team scored the winner in the most fortuitous circumstance.

A through ball saw the alert Blevins come off his line to clear but the ball struck the onrushing attacker, knocking him out and bounced into the empty net.

Weir came on for Peden as Slane pushed hard to equalise and Quinn fired wide form distance but there was no way back.
