More disappointment for Coagh United against Queen’s University

The Hagan Park outfit were on a high after winning their first match of the season but will be kicking themselves after Queens pulled back to take the lead with two quick fire goals.

Josh Rohdich levelled things for Coagh before the break which set up an interesting second half.

Coagh started the match on the back foot with Queens forcing two corners in the first five minutes with both Michael Allison and James Lavery having shots deflected wide.

Things dramatically changed in Coagh’s favour after five minutes after a Coagh player was fouled in the box. Jamie Tomelty despatched sending Declan Brown the wrong way to give Coagh an early lead.

The match flowed from end to end with both side squandering chance after chance. The home side finally equalised after 30 minutes.

A quick free kick caught Coagh napping with Patrick Stuart getting the final tap in. This gave the home side a lift and two minutes later they were in the lead.

Patrick Stuart was the provider and, while Coagh tried to clear, James Lavery pounced on a loose ball to score. Coagh went back in charge from the restart with Tomelty, Quigg and McMaster all having shots saved.

At the other end Patrick Stuart could have done better but he shot poorly at Hassan. Josh Rohdich became Coagh’s saviour in the first minute of stoppage time.

Stuart Forrest picked the Coagh player out and he scored an excellent poachers goal, halftime 2-2

The supporters from both sides were entertained with excellent end to end football which was played at a high tempo at the start of the second half.

Declan pulled out a number of good saves from Gillespie, Quigg and Tomelty.

The visitors continued to camp in the opposition half but just could not find a way past the solid Queens back line.

Against the run of play the home a bad Coagh clearance to put Queens back in charge.

In the final minutes the Queens number one Declan Brown secured all three points with a string of top drawer saves, while Coagh were left pondering on what was a good performance with no reward at the end.

Coagh return to Hagan Park this weekend when they welcome the League Leaders.

The undefeated PSNI make the trip to Co Tyrone having only dropped two points in the first seven matches.

Coagh are still lying eleventh in the table on the same points as Portstewart and Wakehurst. They will need to be at their best to get something out of this match. Kick-off at Hagan Park is at 3pm.
