Morrison Junior Cuptakes centre stage

CITY Colts were the big winners in the Premier Division last Saturday as they continued their good recent form by putting seven past a disappointing Burndennett. The Waterside derby went by the form book with Lincoln Courts defeating BBOB.

This Saturday sees a number of interesting games in the second round of the Matt Morrison Junior Cup.

Tobermore United Reserves v Roe Rovers

The Limavady men are in a rich vein of form playing with a great confidence as the winning habit continues, their maim aim this season is the Premier title but they will be going all out in this competition.

Their opponents play in a competitive league and will be no pushovers at home, however the Roesiders have to be the choice.

Prediction: Roe Rovers.

Douglas Bridge v Newbuildings United Reserves

This is a tough one for the home side who are two divisions below their opponents, however cup ties can sometimes throw up the odd shock and the Bridge are a difficult side to beat at their own ground.

The visitors had no game last week as they cheered their first team in their Irish cup exploits, they have had an excellent season and will be strong favourites to progress.

Prediction: Newbuildings United Reserves.

Irish Street v Churchill United

This game will be keenly fought, both sides play in the Second Division so they will know plenty about each other.

The home side have some good players with the likes of Stewart Smallwoods and Mark McKittrick in their starting line up.

Churchill are top of their division and rattled eight past Dungiven Thirds last week, with two attacking sides there should be plenty of goals.

Prediction: Churchill United.

Coleraine Crusaders v Lincoln Courts

The Crues are one of the better sides from the Coleraine area and they have a decent record in the cup, reportedly to be a big physical side they will relish this one.

The Courts although not at their best in some games are still producing the results they know that they can’t afford an off day if they are to progress.

Prediction: Lincoln Courts.

Maghera Strollers v City Colts

The Strollers already have a massive back log of fixtures and this could seriously damage their chances of winning something this season, they are going to end up playing a lot of mid week games.

The Colts scored seven last week and although they will be the outsiders they have to be respected, this may need extra time.

Prediction: Maghera Strollers.

Eglinton v Ardmore

Another game which could go either way, the home side at full strength are a more than useful side but they sometimes don’t always get their best players out.

Ardmore are going for promotion and they are odds on to do at least that, they had a good win at Kilrea in the previous round and they may get another result here.

Prediction: Ardmore.

Tullyally Colts v Caw

Yet another all first division clash between two sides who are doing well, the Colts have some decent players and they would dearly love to put one over the Caw men.

The visitors are a well organised side both on and off the field, although promotion is their main aim a good run in this competition would go down well, this may need extra time.

Prediction: Caw.
