Morrison looks to Glenavon

The 31 year-old has been without a club since leaving Derry City in September but Blues’ boss Gary Hamilton is hoping he can offer Morrison a route back into the game.

“We’re hoping things go well because, technically, he’s the best player I’ve played with who has come out of Northern Ireland.

“You only have to look at the clubs he’s played for to see he has immense ability.

“He’s been training with Eddie McCallion so we know he’ll have been working hard. Hopefully he gets his match fitness back because, if he does, there are few better players than him in the Irish League.

“The potential with him is massive but it all depends on whether he is fit and if we can sort something out with him financially.”

Morrison left Derry City after, as the Londonderry Sentinel reported, he ‘stormed off after being substituted’ but Hamilton is confident he could manage any potential issues at Glenavon.

Former Glentoran Seconds right-back Owen Thompson has also been keen to impress at Glenavon’s pre-season training, alongside forward Rory O’Connor, who played with recent signing Adam Foley at Glebe North last season.

Hamilton said: “The problem for Rory is that we already have a lot of players up front but he scored a lot of goals for Glebe North last season.

“Rory has picked up a groin injury and can’t play for a week or so but we’re going to keep looking at him.

“Owen’s attitude has been unbelievable. He asked us could he train with us. He was disillusioned with not getting first team games at Glentoran but from what we’ve seen so far, he’s definitely worth a gamble.

“When people are prepared to give things a go regardless of finances then it’s a good sign. If all goes well in pre-season and he impresses, he’ll get an opportunity at our club.”
