Morton steals the show for Dromore side

DROMORE won their first game in six matches with a dominate display against Limavady.

Only for an excellent display by their keeper it could easily have been more for the locals but they won’t complain with their 2-1 victory.

Dromore started slowly in the opening few minutes, giving away a few corners which came to nothing for Limavady, with this being their only chances of the half. Dromore’s first real chance came from a throw which was flicked on by Laura Magowan, allowing Deborah Douglas to cross only for Kerry Taggart to hit wide.

Dromore continued their pressure and an Amy-Louise Graham corner was headed goalwards by Tracy Orr but was cleared off the line.

Kerry Taggart then found herself one-on-one moments later but was denied by the onrushing keeper, the resulting save deflected out wide before being crossed back in but Amanda Morton’s shot lacked conviction and was comfortable saved.

The next chance once more broke for Kerry Taggart after a defensive clearance but yet again she was denied by their keeper whilst one-on-one. With Dromore well on top the next chance fell to Amanda Morton after a great cross by Deborah Douglas but she hit narrowly wide.

The same couldn’t be said for the next chance as Dromore deservedly took the lead. Laura Magowan crossed from the right and Amanda Morton finished low into the bottom corner after 40 minutes. Dromore almost doubled their lead moments later as Laura Magowan once again crossed but Deborah Douglas once more hit wide whilst well placed.

Dromore continued their pressure at the beginning of the second half and had two corners cleared off the line before an Amanda Morton shot was well saved.

Against the run of play Limavady got their first chance of the match and scored. Some poor defending from Dromore allowed their striker to run through the defence and score with 55 minutes gone. Dromore didn’t let this set them back though and continued with their pressure. After 67 minutes Amy-Louise was fouled wide to the left and Tracy Orr stepped up to hit the ball high into the net and give Dromore a deserved lead once more.

Dromore continued in the search for a third goal but once again Kerry Taggart was denied by their keeper twice in a matter of minutes.

It could easily have been heartbreak for Dromore at the end though as Limavady won a free kick just outside the box but it was well saved by Michelle Stevens.

In what was an impressive performance by Dromore they will be happy to leave Limavady with the three points but they could so easily have scored more but for a fine performance by the Limavady number one.
