MOYOLA PARK 6

Ballymoney United’s Chris Peacock always knew he had an uphill struggle on his hands when he took over the reins of the club and that was more than apparent on Saturday when they lost 6-0 at home to Moyola, reports GILLIAN ANDERSON.

Despite the influx of nine new signings before the transfer deadline, Peacock had little time to work with the squad before facing a dominant Moyola side.

“We always knew we had a long re-building process ahead of us,” said Chris, “However, that doesn’t make dealing with a result like that any easier.

“I played three of the new players, four or five of the others need blooding and need game time because they haven’t come straight from other teams where they can just slot in.

“I’m not making excuses, Saturday’s result for any Ballymoney side was unacceptable. I just hope people will be patient and give us the backing we need to push on. It will take timewith more game time things will get better.

“Moyola are an excellent side and move the ball well. They devastated Glebe in the first 20 minutes at the start of the season when I watched them and there is no doubt they have hit the ground running this season.

“We weren’t really a match for them but we should have been better. I take responsibility for it too, we were trying to blood new faces ad this is the only opportunity I have to do it. It was unacceptable for me as a Manager and unacceptable for Ballymoney United to have that sort of result.”

Ballymoney face a break in action this weekend before travelling to Tobermore in the league the following week.

“I am going to use training this week to look at five or six of the lads and I’m hoping to arrange a friendly for the weekend to get them game time and prepare properly for Tobermore away on Saturday week.

“We will be doing everything we can to prepare the squad. This whole team needs totally re-structured. This is like pre-season for me, bringing in all these new signings, however, I have to go straight into a competitive league fixture.

“If I had the personnel here that we do now for pre-season then we could have got them match time in friendlies when the results dont count. Instead we have to go out and play the team sitting top of the league. I’m not after hugs and kisses for it, I always knew it was going to be tough. You are always judged on results and I’m trying to blood players and re-structure at the same time and I always said it would take a month. To date we have only played three league game, there’s 25 league games to go so hopefully we will get enough points along the way.”
