Narrow victory for reserves

A brace from recent signing Andy McCrory added to goals from Jay Magee and Mark Miskimmin and just about earned Gerard McMahon’s men the victory at Seaview.

McCrory came on as a second half substitute and had a hand in Miskimmin’s goal as well as bagging the two of his own as he continued his promising run of form.

McMahon was delighted with the substitute’s display, as well as that of striker Mark Miskimmin, whom the gaffer says has improved in recent weeks.

“Mark did very well,” said McMahon.

“He worked his socks off and he’s been playing very well lately. He’s vastly improved and is getting himself into the right areas. One of these days he’s going to hit about six or seven! He hasn’t done himself any harm anyway. His work-rate was fantastic.

“We brought Andy McCrory on for the last 20 minutes and he did really well. He scored two and set up one from the right side of midfield so he did well. The game had opened up a bit more by then so he had a bit of space.

“Jay Magee did well too but you expect that from him anyway as he’s a quality player. He played half a match as he looks to come back from injury and then Scott Adams came on for him.

“We played pretty well. Carrick are a decent side. They knock the ball about well so it was a good win for us. The boys put in a good effort.”

McMahon’s side currently sit in fifth place in the IFA Reserve League table but are just three points behind second spot and again travel to Seaview on Saturday, this time to face fourth-placed Crusaders (kick-off 2pm).
