Conor Downey has been red hot during the club’s revival and has now netted six goals in his last six outings.

Adding to his undoubted quality now though, is former Newry City AFC front-man Neil Barr.

He was on target twice during the recent 4-1 Intermediate Cup win over Portaferry Rovers and the week before had also netted during the Irish Cup thriller with Crumlin United.

Barr, a summer signing, has struggled to make the starting 11 of late but got the nod in the Intermediate Cup and his goals proved to his manager that he is a worthy asset.

“Neil has a lot of potential,” said Town boss Ryan Watson. “He loves scoring goals. If he gets a chance, he will at least test the goalkeeper.

“In the first half against Portaferry, he maybe struggled to get into the pace of the game but once the chances came, he was in the right place, which he has a real knack of doing.

“He knows there is more to do than just score goals. He knows he has to work hard and keep his movement up.

“The goals will give him a boost and it’s nice to have another striker who we know can score goals and can create chances. Hopefully he will keep that going now.”
