Never give up attitude pays off for Portstewart against Banbridge

There was very little between the sides, and it looked like one goal would win the tie - thankfully the homeside found the net to grab maximum points.

The first half saw a few chances for the home side as Nigel Turner and Ryan Doherty tested the Banbridge keeper.

But the second spell saw a strong start from the visitors.

They forced Joel Madison into a number of saves.

The introduction of Gary Quinn and Markus Condren revamped things for the Ports and it wasn’t long before they were pushing forward.

A free kick on the edge of the box was perfect placing for left footed centre half Peden. He whipped in a neat ball to put his side ahead.

Ports assistant Aaron Forgrave was delighted with the win: “There was very little between the sides, and one goal was always going to win it,” said Forgrave. “We brought on Gary [Quinn] and Markus [Condren] and that gave us a few more options up front. Credit to Nigel Turner who battled the whole 90 minutes up front on his own.” Forgrave described the win as a ‘good team performance’. Portstewart have no fixture this Saturday as Armagh are in Irish Cup action against Glentoran.
