New Distillery boss Tim aims high

NEW Lisburn Distillery boss Tim McCann is aiming high in his first ever role as manager.

The former Cliftonville and Glentoran winger has already met with the players and is looking forward to the challenge.

It’s a job he never expected to be doing until recently.

“To be honest I never had any plans for management,” said Tim. “It was only when I worked under Roy Coyle at The Oval after Scott Young’s departure that I got a feel for it. I felt this is what I wanted to do.

“Roy Coyle has been a big influence in my career. He brought me from Cliftonville to Glentoran as a player. I had a chat with him about the Distillery job and decided to apply. I’m delighted to have been given the chance.

“My aim is to get this club going again, to work towards a top six slot and to be playing in cup finals and semi-finals.

“The players have had a tough season, but it’s up to me to lift them and look to the future. I will also give some of the promising kids a chance to move up into the first team.

“This is a club steeped in history and hopefully we can give the fans something to cheer about again.”

Tim’s number two is Gary Smyth and Sammy McFadden, who was assistant to former boss John Cunningham, is first team coach.

As a player, Tim won every medal in the game and that winning mentality and professionalism should bode well for the season ahead at New Grosvenor.
