News from the Sidelines

THIS week’s club fixtures - The first team will entertain Stranmillis at Rathfriland High School in the Foster Cup.

Slane were defeated by Stranmillis earlier in the season and they will want to put things right in this fixture which will have the earlier kick off at 1.30pm sharp and will go to extra time and penalties if needed.

Moneyslane Reserves will travel to Richhill in a league fixture with a 2.15pm kick off.  Richhill are currently four points ahead of Slane in the league and have played the same amount of games so this will be interesting tie and it’s the first time these two have met this season.

The thirds will travel to Dromore to take on Banbridge Rangers in the league fixture and this will be a game Slane will want to win against the Banbridge men who beat Slane earlier in the season with a strengthened side made up of some of their bigger players from their elite teams. This will be a evenly balanced contest and the odd goal could win it on the day.

Moneyslane U16s will have a tough task this weekend as they travel to Gordon Playing Fields, Lurgan to play Donegal Celtic in a league fixture with a 10.30am kick off. Slane will be up for this one after their fine display against Derry City a few weeks ago and they will be well grilled for this big fixture.

Slane under 15s will play at home against Armagh in the league with a 10.30am kick off. They are looking forward to a game as they have not kicked in almost eight weeks with all the bad wintry weather which has wiped out many fixtures in December and January. Armagh are sitting pretty at the top of the league table and they are the only side not to be beaten this season so it will be a tough fixture for the young Slane men.

The U13s will play Damolly at Nan Sands Playing Fields, Newry this weekend with a 10am kick off. The young lads have not kicked in almost three months and will be glad to get back onto the pitch to get a game.

Moneyslane under 10s will play at the Carnbane Complex this weekend with a fixture against Camlough Utd at 10am and then play Rathfriland Colts in the local derby game which all the squad will be up for. Good to see the kids back in action and they are currently sitting 5th in the league table.

Sympathy - The Football Club would like to send its sincere sympathy to the Johnson family Rathfriland and Deny family Kilkeel. Margaret Johnston is the Junior Club Assistant Secretary and the Club were shocked to hear of the passing of her mother at the weekend. Thoughts and prayers are with the families at this sad time.

Last Man Standing - Moneyslane have been running the Slane Last Man Standing competition and it has turned to be very popular talking point up the line on game days. There has been plenty of banter over who is still in picking the winning team and who is out.

So far 32 people have fallen the wayside after just two weeks. The way it works you have to pick a team from the Premiership to win and then you go through to the following week to pick another team, you cannot pick the same team twice in the competition leaving it harder to get through.
