Newtowne aim to beat Junior Cup holders

LINCOLN Courts clinched the runners up spot in the Premier Division with a victory over old rivals BBOB, also in the division Maghera Strollers and Roe Rovers shared six goals and the points in an exciting game in Maghera Strollers.

Sion kept their title hopes alive in the First Division with a home win against City Colts. Caw long time leaders in the Second Division have hit a bad patch losing to two of their main rivals first at Ardmore and then losing by the only goal of the game at home to Donemana last Saturday.

The semi-final of the Matt Morrisson Junior Cup takes place this evening (Wednesday KO 7.30pm) at Limavady Showgrounds between Liverpool Supporters Club and Newtowne, then on Saturday the next round of the City Cup is down for decision.

What a cracker this should be the Coleraine based side are the holders and they have knocked out some quality sides in reaching this stage, they play attacking football which should suit the Showgrounds pitch.

Newtowne are going for the treble, already league champions they are also in the last eight of the City Cup, there record is phenomenal and they may go through.

Eglinton v Greysteel

A local derby which should bring out a good crowd, the home side will be the underdogs but that won't bother them to much, they have had a decent season but to go through to the next round would make it even better.

Greysteel are formidable opponents, they have already reached the final of the Junior Cup with an excellent victory over the fancied Lincoln Courts, they may prove to strong for their neighbours.

Tullyally Colts v Dungiven Reserves

This all First Division clash will be close, the Colts knocked out second division Caw in the last round and are a very capable side on their day.

Dungiven Reserves took the Premier scalp of BBOB in the last round to show that they are a more than useful outfit, this may go to extra time.

Newtowne v Burndennett

Can the Tyrone men stop the Roesiders from taking a step nearer to the treble, manager John McDaid is confident that his charges on their day are capable of beating the champions.

The home side dearly want a clean sweep of the local trophies and with their record who would bet against that happening, they have to be the selection.
