NI’s McAuley backs Larne Sports Awards

Northern Ireland international Gareth McAuley has given his backing to the Larne Borough Sports Awards.

The West Brom defender, who was named Sports Performer of the Year in March, took time out to help launch the nomination process which opened this week.

McAuley was included in Northern Ireland’s squad for next week’s Euro qualifier away to Romania, won his 50th cap in the recent win over Greece.

Larne mayor Martin Wilson, chairman of the Larne Borough Sports Forum, commented: “Year on year, Larne demonstrates the depth and quality of sporting talent nurtured in the borough, now participating at all sporting levels from youth, regional, national through to international.

“Larne Borough Sports Forum is proud to host the annual awards ceremony to celebrate, recognise and promote local participation and success, and it is vital the public, local clubs, schools and coaches make sure to nominate those who deserve acknowledgement.”

The Award Categories for 2014 are: Sports Performer of the Year; Junior Sports Performer of the Year; Coach of the Year; Team of the Year; Junior Team of the Year; School Team of the Year; The Challenger Award; Services to Sport Award; Veteran’s Award; Sporting Hall of Fame.

Nomination forms are available from the Sports Development Unit at Larne Leisure Centre, by emailing [email protected], or online at www.larne.gov.uk/sport.

The deadline for nominations is 4pm on Wednesday, December 10.
