UUJ appear to have found a new lease of life under boss Shane McCullough who took the hot-seat earlier this month. Following on from last week’s Irish Cup win over Wellington Rec, the students bagged their first league success of the season with a 3-0 victory at Rosario. Laurence Lyons found the net twice and Padraig Scollay got the other.

Division 1B: After the departure Graham McConnell, Wellington Rec slumped to their heaviest league defeat of the season in Saturday’s 6-1 home drubbing to leaders Newcastle. The loss saw Wellington slip to fourth spot so a positive result against East Belfast - a team just one point behind them in the table - will be imperative for new boss Colin Telford, who was announced as the Brookvale Park outfit’s manager on Tuesday.

Seventh-placed Rathfern Rangers opened up a three-point gap between themselves and Downshire thanks to a 4-1 win at the Diamond. Alan Kerby, Craig Caughey, Doyle and Gary Orr netted the goals for Bill Campbell’s men who are unbeaten in their last four outings in 1B.

Division 1C: A Terry Lyness double helped Mossley FC to a 3-1 win over 18th Newtownabbey Old Boys at Cloyne Crescent. Lee Graham chipped in with the other for Garry Campbell’s men, with Ross Miskimmin on target for the Monkstown outfit.
