Northend again games hit by weather

IN another disappointing weekend for all the Northend United Youth teams, waterlogged pitches caused the cancellation of their matches.

With a number of teams going for success in various League and Cup competitions, the weather has caused an unwelcome break in their fixture list.

The vast improving U10 team have reached their first final of the season after beating Ballysillan Youth in the Semi final, they now are looking forward to playing Barn United in the final.

The showpiece fixture of Northend U14s versus Cliftonville U14s in the NIBFA Cup is now rescheduled for this Saturday, March 6, in Ballymena.

Although also cancelled on Saturday, due to a waterlogged pitch, the Northend United Mini Soccer Academy continues this Saturday at Dunfane Pitch 1 from 2.15-4pm.

Following on from a series of successful games against other Soccer Academies before Christmas, Northend Mini Soccer Academy is busy finalising a series of friendly games to be played over the coming weeks, in the lead up to Northend’s participation in the McDonald’s competition.

For more information, please contact John Devlin, Northend United Youth Development Officer, on 0791 905 6834.

Specialist goalkeeping coaching continues each Wednesday night 7.30–9pm at Broughshane Community Centre, for all Northend United Youth goalkeepers.

With this tournament fast approaching, Northend have entered all their teams in the various age groups. Travel plans have just been released, with the boys leaving the car park at the Dunvale Shops on Friday, April 9, at 8am, returning on Monday, April 12, at 5pm.

In addition to the players and coaches, a number of parents are also travelling in what promises to be an excellent weekend’s football.

Northend United Youth’s official training gear bundle is now available for purchasing at a cost of 40 to cover shirt, shorts, socks and raincoat.

As this package is proving popular with the players, anyone not already in receipt should order their training gear from Susan McKenna on 0774 523 6072

On Saturday, March 13, the Northend boys are having a sponsored climb of Slemish to raise funds for the club. This annual fund-raising event always proves popular with players and coaches alike.
