Northend to face hosts as they prepare for Foyle Cup debut

The draw for the Foyle Cup has paired Northend United U13s once again with the host Club, Derry Colts, in what promises to be a mouth watering game.

Both Northend’s U10s and U13s are making their debuts in this year’s Foyle Cup in what promises to be an action packed week for both teams.

On Friday night both U8 teams were in action at the IFA Sponsored mini soccer tournament being hosted by Ballymoney United and featuring teams from Ballymoney United, Coleraine and Ballymena United. Also on Friday night the Club’s Football Development Centre continued at the Showgrounds 3G pitch under the watchful direction of Northend’s Football Development Officer, John Devlin.

Northend United’s Football Development Centre concludes on Friday 13th June 6.00pm to 7.30pm at the Showgrounds 3G pitch before taking a summer break.

This will be immediately followed by the FDC Awards Night being held in the Showgrounds’ Des Allen suite. For more information call John Devlin on 07919 056834.

OPEN NIGHTS

Northend United are already planning for next season and are holding their Open Nights on Wednesday 18th June and Thursday 19th June at Eaton Park.

The Junior Open Night for 2003s to 2006s will be held on the Wednesday 18th June while the Senior Open Night for the 1999’s to 2002s will be held on Thursday 19th June. All new players will be most welcome.

Northend U10s and U13s this week received news of the draws they received in the forthcoming Foyle Cup tournament, taking place from Monday 21st July to Saturday 26th July.

The U10 Northend Boys will play in the mini-soccer section and have been drawn against Clonmany Shamrocks, Trojans, Saint Oliver Plunketts, Bertie Peacock Youths and East Donegal Colts

Northend United U13s have been drawn in a tough group which pits the Ballymena Boys against the hosts Derry City in a match which promises to draw a huge crowd of spectators and visiting scouts alike. In addition, the Northend Boys have been drawn against Shankill Colts and another top local side, Institute, in what promises to be another close game.

U13s manager Mark Lecky commented after hearing the draw “The boys have had an excellent first season in the Lisburn Junior Invitational League and are looking forward to building on this into this season’s Foyle Cup. The match against Derry Colts gives us the opportunity to see how far the team has really progressed.

Both Northend teams will also be taking part in the opening ceremony on Tuesday 22nd July morning, which is preceded by a parade of all the teams through the streets of the Maiden City

Monday 21st July Northend United Vrs Shankill Colts with a 3.00pm kick off at Newbuildings

Tuesday 22nd July Institute Vrs Northend United with a 4.00pm kick off at St. Columbs Park 2

Wednesday 23rd July Northend United v Derry City with a 3.45pm kick off at Thornhill College.

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING

Northend United Youth FC AGM will be held on Tuesday 17th June in the Michelin Club, commencing at 7.30pm sharp. All Club members are welcome to attend, where a report on last year will be displayed and plans for the incoming season will be discussed.

UNDER-19 TEAM

The Wakehurst U19 team is now up and running and the management team of Phil Hanlon and Mickey Tolan are looking forward to getting a number of friendly fixtures under their belt as the team prepares for a pre-season tournament.The team will play in the NIFL Youth League next season.
