Northend under-12s sweep Chimney aside

IN an almost perfect weekend for the Northend United Blues in the Belfast and East Antrim Youth League the U11s, U12s and U13s all won their matches against Chimney Corner and Carnmoney respectively, with the U14s drawing with Castleview Swifts in a 0-0 scoreline.

In the South Belfast Youth League, the U15 team lost their match 4-0 to a good Springfield Star team.

In the George Best Youth League, the U10 team continued their recent good form with an 8-3 win against Castle Juniors from Bangor.

Northend 8, Castle Juniors 3: Northend took the lead after their third corner in five minutes. Aidan Graffin crossed an in-swinging corner over the Castle defence, and Rian Lennon touched the ball into the net from the goal-line.

Despite continued pressure, Castle Juniors managed to squeeze an equaliser just before half-time.

Northend's two new signings, Sean McKay and Robert McCluney, made their debuts at half-time, and McKay scored Northend's second goal after an amazing solo run and struck a great shot into the bottom corner.

Conor McGarry made it three with his first of the day, after some good work by Ruairi Campbell. Connor Meneely scored his first of the season and Northend's fourth with a great shot from 15 yards, with a pass from Scott Sempey. McGarry then added two more quick goals, one a great solo effort from his own half, claiming his and Northend's first hat-trick of the season.

At 6-1 ahead, Northend appeared to take their foot of the pedal and this let Castle Juniors score two goals to make it 6- 3. However, a foul on Kieran Campbell, allowed Blaine Scott to slot home the penalty and his first of the season to make it 7-3. Sean McKay scored the last goal of the match to make it 8-3. Northend 2, Chimney Corner 1: Northend scored their first goal when Daniel Bell squared the ball to Jamie Stevenson whose shot at goal was blocked. As the ball flew out to James O'Loughlin, from 25 yards he let rip with a shot that flew straight into the top corner.

Northend got their second when Daniel Bell played the perfect pass to Jamie Stevenson just outside the 18 yard box; he held of his marker and chipped the ball over the Corner keeper .

Northend 6, Chimney Corner 0: On a wet Friday night under the floodlights, it didn't take the young blues long to break the deadlock, an excellent Philip Maybin corner curled into the net.

Northend's second goal came midway through the half when Philip Maybin played the ball to Zack Herbison who ran from just inside the Chimney half and finished past the keeper.

Soon the blues went three up when a great delivery from Ben Sempey was headed on by David Kilgore to Zack Herbison whose first shot was only parried by the keeper but the same player was on hand to blast the rebound home.

United did score again before half time when great work from Conor Graham set up David Kilgore who gave the keeper no chance from 12 yards with a pile driver.

United's fifth goal came from a corner when Maybin's low delivery was controlled and hammered home by Conor Graham.

Northend scored their sixth when Conor Graham passed to Zack Herbison and he out paced the defence and shot high over the advancing keeper for his hat-trick. MOM - Conor Graham, Zack Herbison

Carnmoney FDC 2, Northend 4: When a penalty was awarded after ten minutes, Leo Morgan stepped up to the spot to smash the ball home and put the Northend blues one goal up.

Northend continued to dominate play and it wasn't long before they got their second when a superb ball in from Ciaran Neeson was touched on by Leo Morgan and finally smashed into the net by Harry Kilgore.

Carnmoney snatched a goal back with a minute to go in the first half, leaving half time score 2-1 to the Blues.

Northend made up for a missed penalty early in the second period when five minutes later Josh King smashed the ball into the net from within the Carnmoney box.

Carnmoney tried to fight their way back into the game with an unstoppable shot but Northend snuffed out any chance of a comeback when they added to their tally when Harry Kilgore ran onto a through ball to slot the ball past the helpless Carnmoney keeper. MOM – Michael Carberry

Castleview Swifts 0, Northend 0: On a wet and blustery day, Northend's normal fluent passing football somehow deserted them and they were made to fight all the way for a hard earned point.

Towards the end of the game Northend had a few chances to score, the best of which was a through ball which left Thomas Brady with a one on one with the keeper. However the Castleview man of the match pulled off a great save to prevent Northend from taking full points. MOM - Michael Laverty
