Northend United sides hit rich vein of form in weekend games

Northend United Youth teams in the Lisburn Youth League hit a rich vein of form this week, recording some of their best displays of the season,

It was Brian O’Hara’s U14s who caught the eye this week with a thumping 6-2 win over Tollymore United.

Elsewhere, Davy Wylie’s U13s beat Irish League Academy side Carrick Rangers 4-1 and the U-11s almost completed a double over the east Antrim side but Joe Kidd’s young players ended up in a 1-1 draw. Finally Robert Adams’ U12 team completed a derby double over Carniny this season.

All the teams in the North West and Coleraine District league were in action, with both of Ally McGarry’s U10 teams turning in top displays, while the U9s continued their rich vein of form.

The weekend started with the IFA’s U8s SSG competition on Friday night at the Showgrounds and Northend had four teams in action, including an U7 and a U6 team. This was followed by the IFA’s U9s SSG competition on Saturday morning with another three Northend teams enjoying their first experiences in football.

UNDER-11

Carrick Rangers 1, Northend United 1: Northend took the lead on five minutes when Kyle Wakefield sneaked behind the defence and finished first time but Carrick equalised soon afterwards and there was no further scoring.

Carniny 3, Northend United 5: Jack McIlhatton put Northend in front on five minutes and eight minutes later, an excellent first tocuh from Lewis Hector gave him the chance to score.

The same duo combined with the same outcome for Northend’s third and Hector completed a first half hat-trick.

Northend took their foot off the pedal in the second half and allowed Carniny back into the game but a second goal for McIlhatton settled the issue.

Northend United 4, Carrick Rangers 1: After falling behind early on, Northend equalised when Adam Campbell finished. The second half saw Northend blow away Carrick with two quick goals from Patrick Ferris and Adam Campbell’s second before Ferris also notched his ‘double’.

UNDER-14

Northend 6, Tollymore Unietd 2: Skipper Conor McDonald opened Northend’s account with a 25-yard free kick and then set up Ryan McMullan for his first goal of the season.

Both those players scored again, along with Dylan Robinson, as Northend led 5-1 at the break and substitute Rio Dunlop scored a long range effort late on for Northend’s sixth.
