Northend United Youth FC round-up: Blues’ fixtures wiped out by weather

THE Arctic conditions at the weekend ruled out all Northend United Youth’s competitive fixtures in the National Youth League, Belfast and East Antrim Youth League and the North West and Coleraine and District Youth League.

However a number of the teams are planned to get back to competitive action over the Easter weekend, with the U14s entertaining Crusaders to Smithfield in the match of the day.

With time also changing next weekend, midweek matches will commence the following week, with a number of the Northend teams in midweek action.

This week also saw the final winter sessions of the Football Development Centre and the Dare to be Different Project both of which were held at the Ballymena North Centre on Wednesday and Friday nights.

FOOTBALL DEVELOPMENT CENTRE

Northend’s Football Development Centre’s current sessions came to an end on Friday night for a few weeks break.

Despite the poor wintry conditions outside, parents and children were treated to an entertaining evening of mini soccer inside at its winter location of the Ballymena North Centre.

Another new initiative of Northend United Youth, the winter indoor location for the FDC has proved popular with parents and children alike and has seen record numbers attend.

However such is the popularity of the Football Development Centre, that it is planned to recommence again on Friday 19th April at Ballymena Showgrounds Pitch 3 for another five week duration.

The additional sessions, in addition to providing fun and enjoyment in mini soccer, will also be used to prepare next season’s 2005/6 team for life in the North West and Coleraine and District Youth League.

DARE TO BE DIFFERENT

The Dare to be Different project, yet another initiative of Northend United Youth FC, finished on Wednesday night after a total of ten weeks duration at its popular Ballymena North Venue.

With record numbers of boys of various ages having attended the three different age groups in this project over its ten weeks duration, the course has certainly proved to be a huge success both for Northend United Youth and all the boys who have availed of the free midweek football.

Northend United Youth would like to extend their thanks to the Ballymena Policing and Community Safety Partnership, who have helped to fund this project and also to the Dare to be Different, Drugs and Alcohol Awareness Team who have delivered a number of workshops with all the boys, during the project and lastly to the staff of the Ballymena North Centre, who helped prepare the hall each evening for activities to begin.

GOLF FUNDRAISING DAY

With little over 4 weeks to Northend’s Annual Golf Fundraising Day on Sunday 21st April, plans are already well advanced for the big day at Galgorm Castle Golf Club.

Tournament organisers, Phil and Rodney aim to build upon the huge success from last year’s tournament when a number of Sporting Celebrities turned out to support the Northend cause.

Indeed a number of Celebrities have already confirmed their entry in this year’s tournament, such was their experience in last year’s tournament.

The organisers have already received a number of 4-ball entries for this year’s event. With slots filling up fast, participants are asked to get in contact with Phil or Rodney as soon as possible to reserve a slot in what promises to be another great day’s golf.
