Northend United Youth FC round-up: U-15s close in on title

NORTHEND United Youth under-15s turned in one of their best performances of the season to beat Antrim Rovers 6-2 and take a step closer to their first League title.

With their nearest rivals both dropping points in a drawn game, the Ballymena Boys are within touching distance of the League silverware.

However, Performance of the Week goes to Mark Herbison’s U13s who beat Barn United 10-3 in a crushing performance of football to proceed to the semi-finals of the East Antrim Cup.

Elsewhere in the Belfast and East Antrim League, the U11s continued their good form with a 4-0 win over Chimney Corner in the Cup.

The U12s lost their match against Carrick Rangers as did the U14s in their match against local rivals Waveney Youth.

Johnny Sayers’ U16s turned in a team-like performance to defeat Barn United 3-1 in a Plate match.

The younger teams had a free weekend with the U9s and U10s both enjoying a well earned rest for a week.

With less than one week to go to the big Northend United Youth Golf Day fundraising event this Sunday, March 25, the list of sporting personalities gets bigger and bigger, with former Northern Ireland international Keith Gillespie and radio commentator, Joel Taggart the latest names to come out and support the Northend cause.

The first four-ball gets underway at 10.00am on Sunday morning, in what promises to be an excellent day’s craic.

Northend organiser Rodney Campbell this week went on record to thank Galgorm Castle’s Phil Hanlon for all the help he has given in coordinating and formalising this event.
