Burns is back at the Ports for a second spell having previously played for the club across the 2012/13 campaign.

But of greater interest to Tipton is the experience gained across trophy-winning periods with Linfield and Coleraine before his recent Ballymena United departure.

“We go back up into the Danske Bank Premiership promoted out of the Championship with a squad of young and hungry players but Aaron adds a winning mentality at the highest level,” said Tipton. “He is still only 28 years old so prime years in your career really.

“We sat down and had a conversation with Aaron and what proved impressive was the depth of his knowledge of this Portadown squad and how we expect him to fit in.

“Therefore, when you take everything into account, it was an easy decision to make.”
