NW Football: Junior Cup ties take centre stage this weekend

Unfortunately with the recent weather all games will be a doubt even at this early stage in the week.

Junior Cup

Ardmore v Artigarvan

On paper this looks a home banker. Ardmore’s hopes of the title look to be over so manager Damien McGee will have his players going all out to win this competition. They don’t like ending up winning nothing.

The visitors are sitting third from bottom in the Second Division with just five wins out of seventeen games.

They will be hoping to make the score line respectable.

Prediction: Ardmore.

Kilrea v Lisahally

Lisahally have been on the crest of a wave all season turning in some great performances. They are playing with a swagger and are already in the City Cup semi-finals.

Kilrea are reportedly a big physical side who have a couple of Gaelic players in their line out and with home advantage they won’t go down without a fight.

Prediction: Lisahally.

Eglinton v Greysteel

Two First Division sides meet at St Canices. Both were knocked out of the City cup last week so they will be up for this one. Eglinton are currently fifth from bottom in their league and not quite clear of relegation.

Greysteel are looking certainties for promotion but they will want to go as far as they can in this competition. They suffered a heavy defeat at Foyle Wanderers last week but they should bounce back here.

Prediction: Greysteel.

Claudy United v Tullyally

The Claudy men are having a very ordinary season although they have a reasonably settled side they need a bit of strengthening if they are going to be a force again.

Could this be the season when Tullyally will win some silverware? Already in the City Cup semi-final, they are capable of doing just that. Danger man Andy Cooke continues to score the goals and he will have to be watched.

Prediction: Tullyally.

BBOB v Glendermott

The Old Boys after a minor blip got back to show what they are capable of last week. Out of the title race Don Olphert will now concentrate on the cups and they will fancy them selves in this game.

Glendermott are having a decent season in Division one although they look unlikely to be involved in the promotion race this is going to be difficult for them.

Prediction: BBOB.

Premier Division

Drummond v Claudy Rovers

What a game this promises to be, the Roesiders are on top of the pile six points ahead of their opponents however Claudy have two games in hand.

Both sides play attacking football so there should be plenty of thrills, a draw looks the likely outcome.

Prediction: Score Draw.

Irish Street v Foyle Wanderers

Mark McKittrick’s side have had a season of struggle unable to attract quality players they are in need of a rebuilding plan in what looks like first division football next season.

Wanderers manager Andy McClintock wants at least one trophy this season and his side look capable of doing just that, with their two main challengers playing each other a win is a must here.
