The Waterside men easily saw off a Coagh United side 6-2 and he was also pleased that there was five different goalscorers.

“Everybody keeps going on about a 20 goal striker, but if you have five or six players scoring six goals every game, you won’t be far away,” he admitted.

“I think some of our offensive play on Saturday was excellent. We still look a wee bit suspect at the back when crosses were coming in. I would like a wee bit more steel and win our headers.

“Leading up to their first goal, we missed a header then we were out of position, they broke and Doc (Michael Doherty) made a save and we had a chance to clear it, but we didn’t, so it was a combination of two or three mistakes, which we need to elevate them very quickly.”

Kee was very pleased that the likes of Michael McCrudden, Aaron Walsh, Gary Henderson, Darren McFadden, Robbie Hume and man of the match Darren McCauley were more and more into the game compared to the opening day match at Lisburn Distillery.

“We had control of the game, our creative players were on the ball and we had good shifts from Henderson and Walsh in the midfield. I thought McCauley was excellent, he felt that he had a wee bit to do from the Distillery game.

“For him to also get another goal from midfield that’s pleasing, in fact that’s two in two games for Darren.

“The only thing I have said to them was that we had conceded two goals, which probably was a negative particularly after we scored six and won, but we have set the bar high and I can’t take away from the performance.

“To score six goals in any match, no matter who it’s against is a good achievement. The opponents are there to be beaten and we beat them and gave a good account of ourselves over the 90 minutes.”

The Drumahoe man was very pleased that his side came out of their blocks fast and dominated things right from the off.

“We started very well and the goal was coming, yes in fairness they did create their own downfall, but you can’t be challenging like that in the box. McFadden did well to get his body in front of the defender on the two occasions.

“I think when we scored our fourth their spirit died a wee bit, but to score six goals in any game is good, but we need to keep that going, because we know on our day we can play well offensively, but we also need to do the defensive work as well.

“Every team works hard and the way to kill teams off is by scoring goals and I felt we took our foot off the pedal a bit after we scored twice in the first half, so I told the players to be careful about that, but straight away after the break they score, but in fairness to us we have reacted in a positive way and scored a third through Paddy (McLaughlin) very quickly.

“Then Robbie (Hume) scored and I was pleased for him, (Darren) McFadden scored and that will give him a lift, before (Darren) McCauley scored the sixth, in fantastic fashion and I felt McCauley was superb.”
