O’Flynn’s goal wins the points

Institute secured an impressive and fully deserved 1-0 win at fellow title contenders Bangor, who lost their discipline in the second half and ended the game with nine men.

Striker Stephen O’Flynn’s ninth goal in five games was the difference between the sides, but in truth the Cork man and fellow frontman Stephen Parkhouse had chances to make life easier for ’Stute, as they missed clear cut chances in the first half.

Despite not playing well in the second half, O’Flynn’s tenth minute strike was enough in the end for the Waterside men.

The Seasiders were denied an equaliser after the break when Grant Gardiner’s free-kick, which had ’Stute keeper Michael Doherty beaten, rattled the crossbar.

Bangor duo Stephen O’Neill and former Institute man Thomas Wray were rightfully sent-off in the second half, as they lost their discipline.
