Olympic start season on right foot with victory over neighbours Sky BluesReserves

Last Saturday Cookstown Olympic started the new season with a 3-1 victory at home to Magherafelt Sky Blues Reserves.

Olympic missed a chance In the first minute while Sky Blues spurned a chance after 15 minutes. Olympic then had a penalty disallowed on 30 minutes and Nigel Johnston shot across the Magherafelt goals 7 minutes later.

Magherafelt had shot on target After 39 minutes while a Nigel Johnston put a header off the bar from a Michael O’Hare cross after 42 minutes. Magherafelt took the lead on 44 minutes with a 20 yard shot while Olympic had a second goal disallowed after an alleged foul in the area after 45 minutes.

In the second half Olympic missed from 6 yards after 52 minutes but then equalised after 70 minutes when Liam Mullan came out of defence and freed Matty Hughes who finished his one on one chance. Then five minutes later Olympic were 2-1 up when Ryan Devlin scored from the penalty spot. Olympic then missed another open goal after 77 minutes but finally got the third goal In the 89th minute when Nigel Johnston set up Ryan Devlin to grab his second of the match.

Next Saturday 31st August Olympic will travel to Antrim to play Chimney Corner Reserves while on Saturday 7th September it will be a home game with Carnmoney at Beechway with a 2pm kick off.
