Parkie key to away day win

Institute boss Paul Kee was over the moon following his side’s display at Shorts, on Saturday.

The Drumahoe club scored eight and in truth they should have scored a lot more in what were terrible windy conditions in their Coca/Cola Intermediate Cup tie.

“We wanted to bounce back after getting knocked out of the Irish Cup and we did that with a good display,” said Kee.

“We recognised that we are defending a good record in the Intermediate Cup and I think other than that Joe McCready fiasco when Dergview protested and we got thrown out we haven’t lost in the Intermediate Cup in three seasons, so we wanted to keep that record going.

“We got off to a great start and then we conceded a soft goal. It was just a lack of concentration, we were too high up the pitch, it was poor position by the centre-back’s, particularly Mattie (Crossan) and then Marty (Gallagher) was a wee bit off his line, but after that in fairness we controlled the game.

“We scored a cracking goal from Parkie (Stephen Parkhouse) just before half-time to make it 3-1 and that came at a good time. Then in the second half we got two quick goals and then it was just shooty in.

“To be honest we had half a dozen chances early in the second half but we only scored three, however in saying that to score five in the second half is pleasing.

“The score-line is nice and pretty and I felt it was reflective on how good we played offensively, we had good movement and created a host of chances.”

The ’Stute gaffer was also full of praise for experienced striker Parkhouse.

“We had a presence up front and Parkie has brought that to the team, I’m pleased for (Darren) McFadden to also have scored a couple of goals, which is good.”
