Patterson, who netted 18 goals in the league last season, has signed a new two deal with the Candystripes after holding talks with newly appointed manager Roddy Collins on Thursday.

The Northern Ireland international, who had a number of clubs reportedly interested in him, is happy that everything is now sorted out after only returning from holiday this week.

“I went on my holidays and had a good break, then came back had a chat with the new manager and I was impressed with what he said to me, so I was happy to sign,” stated Patterson.

“Roddy talked about his plans and what he wants to do at the club in the future and I think he’ll be a strong enough manager to stamp his ideas out.

“There were a few things in the pipeline, but once I spoke to Roddy and heard what his plans were I had no hestiation in re-signing and I’m now just looking forward to pre-season starting.

“While we don’t know an actually date on when pre-season will start, we have been told it will be in January and I can’t wait.”

Another man who signed for City is former Athlone Town striker Enda Curran, who worked with Collins last season at Lissywollen.

As for the Derry gaffer he’s delighted to have added Patterson to his squad, which has already lost the likes of Simon Madden, Paddy Kavanagh and Michael Rafter.

“There was no problem whatsoever and there’s no questioning his commitment. There wasn’t even a hesitation, he just wanted to sign. So it’s brilliant. I wanted that done and dusted as soon as possible,” admitted Collins.

“He’s a prolific goalscorer with a reputation for wanting to be a winner. I like winners and he’s a winner. I’ve no doubt about that.

“And he’s not a man who is afraid to express his own opinion and that’s something I really look for in a player.

“It’s a no-brainer and the kid I’m bringing in beside him is also a strong character and equally opinionated and it’s brilliant.”
