The tournament was organised primarily to celebrate the support local primary schools have given to the charity throughout the year.

Pupils brought old football jerseys, which will be going out to the children in Ethiopia who are cared for by Stand by Me.

Ten schools played in the 7-a-side tournament and the triumphant team was Mossgrove Primary from Glengormley.

The schools involved have welcomed Stand by Me into their classrooms and listened to the stories of children who have been rescued from crisis by the charity. The boys and girls have opened their eyes to the world around them and are aspiring to be the change they want to see in the world.

A big thank-you from Stand by Me to primary schools: Woodlawn, Sunnylands, Linn, Model, Whiteabbey, Oakfield, Mossgrove, Victoria, Carnmoney and Whitehead.

Stand by Me, which has an office in Carrick, is a charity committed to rescuing and caring for some of the world’s poorest and most vulnerable children.

Throughout our children’s homes, schools and care centres, it aims to meet the individual needs of children and make lasting improvements to their lives by restoring their dignity, giving them a sense of self-worth, and helping them to reach their full potential.
