Player throws grenade

PLAYERS in the Iran Pro League, which former Derry City striker Eamon Zayed is now playing in with Persepolis, were lucky to avoid serious injury.

In a game between Sepahan and Al Ahli of Saudi Arabia in the Iranian city of Isfahan, a grenade was thrown onto the pitch a few feet away from players and officials.

Sepahan midfielder Adel Kolahkaj, seemingly unaware of the danger posed, picked up the grenade and casually threw it off the field, where it exploded on hitting the ground.

Fortunately no-one was injured in the blast. Zayed played at the same ground in September, where his side lost 2-0 to Sepahan.
