Farren, who underwent successful surgery on a benign brain tumour which was diagnosed in 2008, now requires further treatment and McHugh along with Finn Harps, Derry City and other League of Ireland players, past and present are all expected to take part in the 5K event.

The event, which is open to everyone will be 5 euros to enter and take place on Saturday, February 8, at Killea FC Club House, with registration taking place at the same venue from 9am that morning.

“Me and Mark are good mates and I just wanted to do something to show him that we are thinking about him,” stated McHugh.

“He was delighted that we are doing something and I’m delighted that the PFAI are also on board.

“At the minute the response I have received since posting the news on facebook and twitter has been incredible and because of it we may have to change the route.

“I’ll be speaking to some of Mark’s old team-mates at Derry City and I know that Finn Harps players are using the run as part of their pre-season preparations. There are also a number of other League of Ireland players who have been in touch in regards anything they can do.”
