Poor finishing costs Killymoon

Killymoon Rangers 2 Banbridge Town 4

KILLYMOON exited the Intermediate Cup on Saturday as poor finishing cost them dearly at the Mid Ulster Sports Arena. Banbridge Town were ruthless in front of goal and their superior finishing ensured that there was no cup upset.

The home side found themselves three goals down at the half time interval and were stunned at the scoreline despite having numerous efforts on goal.

Banbridge stunned the home side by taking the lead with only seconds gone in the tie. Tumulty saw his effort blocked and McGrath pounced on the loose ball to fire home.

The away side soon doubled their lead as McArdle scored with a glancing header from a superb cross.

Killymoon then wasted a number of chances as Purvis, Young and Smith all failed to trouble the away keeper. Banbridge survived the Killymoon onslaught and grabbed a third on thirty minutes. Kingsbury crossed for Downey to nod in at the back post.

The last action of the half involved Crooks as he saw his free kick saved. The midfielder was given his marching orders only moments later for using foul language.

Despite being down to ten men, Killymoon responded superbly in the second half. Young swung in a tantalising corner and the ball deflected with Ali Young to make it 3-1.

However, any chance of a spirited comeback was short lived. Two minutes later Downey slotted home from the edge of the box following a short corner.

Downey was in the thick of the action once again as he saw his header ricochet off the post. Kingsbury then shot narrowly over before Killymoon grabbed a second goal to leave it 4-2.

McElhatton played a free kick to Shannon who was tripped in the box. McElhatton stepped up and slotted home from the spot.
