Ports all set for pre season

PORTSTEWART have boosted their squad ahead of the start of the season.

Former Coleraine players, John Neill, Lee Forgrave, Nigel Turner and Ryan Doherty will line out for the Seasiders this season.

Portstewart boss, Gary Taylor says that the players’ experience will make a big difference.

“It’s great to get these boys on board.

“We had a very young squad last year, but getting these lads on board in is a huge boost.

“They will help our younger players like Dean Murray, Danny Austin and Johnny Gawn along.”

Portstewart finished mid table last season, but Gary is hoping to improve this time around: “ We finished well.

“We stopped conceeding silly goals, but it was too little too late.

“Of course Tobermore are now in our league, we also have Ballymoney and Glebe, so that’s four teams in close proximity competing for the same players, it will be very interesting,” he added.

Portstewart Town and Portstewart Reserves have merged and will play in the Coleraine League this coming season. Gary says that the move is another ‘positive step’ for Portstewart.

Pre season friendlies lined up so far include: Saturday July 20, Ahoghill Thistle, Saturday, July 27 Distillery and Coleraine on Monday, August 5.
