Ports get back on track

Austin and Quigg were on target in the 2-0 league win.

It was a pleasing display for Ports boss Gary Taylor, after last week’s drubbing at Knockbreda.

“It was good to get back on track,” admitted Taylor.

“We had two men sent off in the first half last week, so to get back to winning ways was pleasing.”

Taylor singled out Paul Milican and Craig Ramsey for praise in the centre of defence and applauded Quigg on his first goal in only his second start.

“Paul is a good young prospect.

“He’s great on the ball, if he gets his fitness levels right I have no doubt he’ll score a few more for us,” told Taylor.

James Peden and Danny Austin had early efforts but the visiting keeper proved too strong.

The visitors were reduced to ten men following a harsh tackle on Peden and after this Portstewart seemed to take control of the tie.

Danny Austin opened the scoring from close range after some skilful play by Ricky Dunlop.

At the other end, Portstewart’s defence held firm and dealt well with any Sport and Leisure attacks.

The second half saw Portstewart dominating again.

Austin should have added a second just after the re-start, however his header went over the bar. At the other end Madison pulled off two great saves to keep the Ports in front.

The game was over in the 83rd minute when Paul ‘Figo’ Quigg netted his first for the Seahawks, rounding two defenders to slot home.

Portstewart travel to Ballyclare this Saturday in the Irish Cup.
