Portstewart suffer heavy defeat by PSNI

After last week's battling derby peformance, Portstewart suffered their biggest defeat of the season on Saturday.

Gary Taylor’s side travelled to Newforge where they were hammered 5-0 by second placed PSNI.

Two goals in seven minutes saw Portstewart 2-0 down at the break. But before that the Seasiders did have a few chances, Ryan Doherty and Johnny Stewart tested the PSNI defence.

Portstewart came out for the second half and looked to pull a goal or two back, but PSNI scored on the break, leaving the scoreline 3-0 after an hour.

“That goal was the final nail in the coffin for us,” said a dejected Taylor.

“They are a half decent team, and we just didn’t perform - what a difference a week makes from the good display against Glebe.

“But we will have to lift ourselves.,” said Taylor.

“We were weakened before we started on Saturday, Ryan McAllister and David McClements were unavailable and John Neill was suspended.

“Joel [Madison) pulled off a number of good saves or it could have been more to be perfectly honest,” told Taylor.

Attentions turn to Saturday when Pat McAllister’s Sport and Leisure make the trip to Seahaven.

“We know that this will be a tough battle.

“They are a very physical side and I know that ‘Packie’ has made a few new signings.

“Sport and Leisure have a few games in hand over the teams at the top, so they are certainly a team to watch.”
