Promotion- chasing ‘Stute is final fixture

They take on North West rivals Institute, who are pushing for promotion to the Premiership next season.

At the time of going to press, they were sitting second in the table behind Bangor, who lead by a point.

‘Stute were due to play promotion-chasing Carrick Rangers last night in a game which could decide who goes up.

At the moment, Paul Kee’s men are in the play-off position, with Bangor not looking to get promoted.

From their 24 league games this season they have won 13, drawn nine and only lost two.

They have scored 68 times in those games whilst allowing 34 at the other end.

When the two sides met much earlier in the season, United capitulated as they were hammered 5-0.

Going into the game, United manager Neil Mullan has a few positives that he can take into next season.

“For me over the last few months, there have been signs that we have plenty to work on for next season,” he said.

“We have to remain positive, because despite being relegated to Championship Two, we have plenty to work with.

“We have some very talented youngsters here, with Peter Lynch stepping up last weekend against Dundela.

“Corey (McMullan) played out of position for me on the right as well, and he showed that he is more than able to do a job.”

Mullan does know, however, that he is going to have to add to the panel before next season starts.

“We will be looking to add to the squad for next season, because we need much more strength and power.

“We need some experience in the team as well, because that is vital to have the right mix of players.

“We know the tools we have to finish this season with, but I’m hopeful we can get something at Institute,” he finished.

Going into the weekend’s game, United are likely to have the same squad as they did for the last few games as the youngsters are given a chance.
