Provincial League: Rovers sides only local teams to beat wintry weather

The wintry weather at the weekend put paid to most of the fixtures involving locally-based teams in the Ballymena & Provincial League.

The exception was Antrim Rovers, whose first team and Swifts outfit both managed to beat the chilly weather, which curtailed the fixture schedule across the league’s four divisions.

JUNIOR DIVISION ONE

Antrim Rovers 2, Woodlands 0: Rovers got off to a great start with Jonny Rogers converting penalty on the 4th minute.

After this early goal both defences had the best of the play with no more goals being scored before half-time.

Rovers doubled their lead on the 49th minute after Darren Adair scored then as happened in the first half it was the defences who controlled the game with no more goals being scored.

LINDA WELSHMAN MEMORIAL CUP

Antrim Rovers Swifts 4, Mountainview 7: Mountainview went on front after Paul Fingleton scored on the 16th minute then a brace of goals from Billy Brown on the 22nd and 24th minutes made it 3-0.

Billy Brown then completed his hat-trick on the 34th minute and brought his tally to five with two more goals on the 40th and 45th minutes putting Mountainview 6-0 clear at half-time.

Jack McLean pulled goal back for the Swifts on the 51st minute followed by Charlie O’Grady scoring on the 60th minute. Gareth Tarr scored number seven for Mountainview with the Swifts replying with goals scored by Charlie O’Grady and Matthew Montgomery.
