Quigg praises Foyle College

DERRY City Reserves boss John Quigg has praised the contribution of Foyle & Londonderry College to the local community and local football.

In recent seasons the Brandywell club has availed of the facilities at the Springtown school and Quigg has admitted that without there help and co-operation they would experience significant difficulty in arranging training sessions.

“The younger players we have brought through have benefited greatly from the location of the grounds and the top quality condition that the grounds staff have them in. Players such as James McClean and Daniel Lafferty have trained at the college in recent years and it provides a safe and friendly environment to bring young players.

“The faciliaties at both Foyle & Londonderry and Magee College are fantastic and I have to admit only for Neil Stewart at Foyle and Marty McCann at Magee, we would have struggled to have got somewhere for training this season.”

Oxford United boss Paul Roddy has also praised the school. “Foyle are doing for the local community what all local schools should be doing by engaging with young people and offering their facilities. The Glen Cup Committee hold various events at Foyle and without the help of the school these events would be very difficult to organise.”

Derry City Ladies manager has also praised the school for providing his side with a high condition of grounds in the last couple of years which has helped them win consecutive League and Cup doubles over the past two years.
