Rangers and Slane hope cup ties will beat 
the weather

Rangers are still waiting to travel to Abbey Villa for their Irish Cup fourth round tie, having been twice beaten by the weather.

Meanwhile, Jubilee Park’s surface had little chance after a deluge on Saturday morning but they’re hopeful they will be able to welcome Glentoran Seconds for their Intermediate cup second round fixture this weekend.

Both games are scheduled to kick-off at 1.30pm and the local sides are desperate to get onto the pitch, especially Rathfriland boss Clifford Sterritt, whose Christmas could be tamed with another call-off.

“We’re hoping it doesn’t roll over again because it would have to be played on Boxing Day.”

Meanwhile, Moneyslane boss David Johnstone is confident their game will get the nod.

He said: “Considering the recent weather, the pitch is in very good condition. It was only a deluge on Saturday morning and the consistent mizzle afterwards that beat us on Saturday so we’re confident that the match will go ahead.”
