Rangers are Rover the moon with Moore winner

Just seven days earlier, Rovers had beaten Bill Campbell’s men on exactly the same scorleine, but this week it was Rangers who exacted sweet revenge.

“It was two matches between two very evenly matched teams. The way Portaferry played in the second half, they’ll think they should have won it, but then we could have been three up in 25 minutes and it would have been hard for them to come back from that.”

Rathfern started as they had finished, thanks to a first-minute header from Stuart Crawford, in a move masterminded by Moore.

Crawford then turned provider for Gary Orr to grab the second, though Rathfern’s leading marksman ought to have added to his tally, hoisting a Moore cross over the bar on 25 minutes. It was looking even more costly when Rovers broke away from the ensuing goal kick to halve the deficit.

Orr did manage to complete his double before half time, though Portaferry cancelled that one out just five minutes into the second session.

The script was starting to look all too familiar as Rovers redressed the balance and then fluffed another glorious chance for another four-three of their own.

But this time it was Rathfern who had the final word, with that late winner from Moore.
