Rangers III’s blitz Bloomfield to win an eight goal thriller

Ballymacash Rangers III came out on top 5-3 in an eight goal thriller against Bloomfield III in Division 1 of the South Antrim League.

It was a sizzling game to pick for our match of the day and both teams were in buoyant mood after the game which produced some fine football and - of course - goals galore.

Tommy Houston set the tone when he opened the scoring with a “bicycle kick’’ effort, but the old “war horse’’ Eddie Ritchie got his inevitable goal to level the score.

Houston was on target again with a long range effort, but once again Bloomfield hit back through Simon Harris.

Ballymacash continued their goalscopring form to take a 5-2 lead. Ian Walker restored the lead with a fine shot from distance and Mark McCutcheon added the fourth from close range before Stuart Adams, back from holiday added the fifth.

Bloomfield, to their credit, kept going and were rewarded with a goal from Stephen Torrans.

Ballymacash manager John McClinton said they have been playing well to date without reward, ut this was another good performance with the right result.

He picked out goalkeeper Davy Braniff as their star, making at least three excellent saves to keep them in the game.

Bloomfield boss, Colin Carser, said they really enjoyed the game even though coming out on the losing side. He said Stephen Torrans was their man of the match an a real powerhouse in midfield.

The next featured match will be Lambeg Rangers II v Newtown Forest III at Wallace Park 3.
