Rangers lose out to Glentoran

CARRICK Rangers were dumped out of the County Antrim Shield on Wednesday night (September 7) losing 5-2 to a youthful Glentoran at The Oval.

Both sides had a man sent off in the first half of this quarter-final match. Jason Hill saw red for the east Belfast outfit inside the first ten minutes and Rangers centre-back Michael McClean picked up his second yellow shortly before the half hour mark.

Carrick took the lead through Paul McDowell shortly after before Owain Beggs fired past Maros Valko to level for Scott Young’s side.

After the break the Glens netted three goals inside 20 minutes courtesy of Jim O’Hanlon (two) and a Jimmy Callacher free-kick.

Paul Owens responded for Carrick with a 79th-minute goal from close range but the Glens wrapped up a comprehensive win when Darren Boyce headed home in time added on.
